Court Affirms Odimayo, Akingbaso as Authentic Ondo APC Candidates in Sudden Judgment Shift

ABUJA – The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed suits challenging the emergence of Olujimi Odimayo and Festus Akingbaso as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for two federal constituencies in Ondo State.

In an unexpected development, the court brought forward the delivery of its judgments from the dates previously scheduled, notifying the legal teams involved that the rulings would be delivered on Friday, 16 October 2026.

In Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/942/2026, Olumuyiwa Daramola challenged the nomination of Olujimi Odimayo as the APC candidate for the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency.

Similarly, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/984/2026, Razaq Obe challenged the nomination of Festus Akingbaso as the APC candidate for the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency.

Starnews NG reports that the presiding judge, Hon. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, dismissed both suits and affirmed Odimayo and Akingbaso as the APC candidates for their respective constituencies.

The legal teams representing both candidates expressed satisfaction with the judgments, describing them as a validation of the APC’s internal processes and its right to sponsor candidates of its choice.

Although the detailed reasons for the judgments, including the court’s consideration of video evidence and oral testimony presented during proceedings, were not immediately available, the rulings have cleared the candidates of the legal challenges relating to their nominations.

Further details, including the court’s full reasoning and reactions from the Daramola and Obe camps, are expected to emerge.
