AKURE — The Ondo State House of Assembly complex was thrown into disarray on Thursday morning, August 27, 2026, when a group of suspected thugs invaded the premises as legislators were preparing for the day’s proceedings, an event that may be connected to the planned impeachment of the Assembly Speaker, Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
The hoodlums reportedly stormed the legislative complex during the morning hours, moving from office to office and creating an atmosphere of severe panic and tension among lawmakers and assembly staff.
Internal sources within the Assembly alleged that the group had been mobilized from Ondo town, the immediate constituency of the embattled Speaker.
The situation was eventually brought under control following the swift intervention of security operatives and several assembly members. Notably, Hon. Olajide Oguntodu was among those who actively participated in removing the invaders from the premises.
The incident marks a volatile escalation in the tensions that have gripped the Assembly for several weeks. A significant majority of the legislature—21 out of 26 members—previously signed an impeachment notice demanding Speaker Oladiji’s resignation.
The move follows serious allegations of financial misconduct, specifically regarding the unauthorized diversion of ₦44 million intended for the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) budget.
