The 35-year-old presidential candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Moses Adebisi, has declared that he is poised to become Nigeria’s youngest president if elected in the 2027 general election.
Adebisi made the declaration during an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, where he outlined his academic background, grassroots activities and reasons for entering the presidential race.
The candidate, who said he is a PhD candidate at Harvard University in the United States, said he accepted the political challenge after Nigerians urged him to move beyond his empowerment initiatives and seek a direct role in national leadership.
“The presidential candidate of the DLA is the youngest presidential candidate or the incoming president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the youngest,” he said.
Adebisi said his academic work in Government, Political Thought and History had exposed him to different models of political leadership and national transformation, which he said influenced his decision to contest.
He said he had previously focused on empowerment programmes for market women and young Nigerians, as well as digital literacy initiatives aimed at helping secondary school pupils prepare for computer-based examinations.
According to him, his team distributed computers and deployed volunteers to communities across Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, other parts of the South-West, the North-Central and the Federal Capital Territory for the digital literacy campaign.
Adebisi said he eventually realised that his efforts outside politics could not adequately address the wider challenges facing Nigeria.
“They beckon on me that you can’t stay in America and think you’re solving the Nigeria’s problem,” he said.
The presidential candidate said he subsequently travelled to China to study the country’s economic transformation, particularly the reforms that began in 1978, while also examining the political and economic foundations of the United States.
He said the experience reinforced his belief that he could provide an alternative to the current political leadership and defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
“The ship and the chariot of the oppressors is about to sink in this country. As I, this, this, Moses, as people usually call me, is the only person that have the capacity to defeat the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC government come 2027 in Nigeria,” Adebisi said.
He also claimed that the DLA had quietly developed its political structure using what he described as a “submarine approach”, arguing that the strategy had allowed the party to establish itself without attracting significant public attention.
“We have used our submarine approach to get into the system. They never see us coming, including yourself. Nobody saw us coming at all, but we have come anyway,” he said.
Adebisi further claimed that the DLA was the only political party registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission between 2022 and 2026, despite what he said were 171 political associations that sought registration during the period.
He said the party would rely on its grassroots structure and mobilisation strategy to prosecute the 2027 election.
The candidate also appealed to Nigerian youths to become more involved in politics, saying they should play a central role in deciding the country’s political future.
