Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are set to arrive in Nigeria on Monday to assess the venues being prepared to host this year’s CAF African Schools Football Championship Final Phase.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship, which started four years ago, is an annual tournament for players under the age of 15.
Starnews learnt from the NFF Communications officer Ademola Olajire on Sunday that the event aims to encourage youth football and promote education across Africa.
This initiative is backed by a $10 million investment from the foundation of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and includes zonal qualifiers leading to the continental finals.
The competition is open to both boys and girls. The 2024 finals took place in Accra, Ghana, where the boys’ team from Tanzania and the girls’ team from Ghana claimed victory.
Winners can receive up to $300,000 for infrastructure development, and the tournament collaborates with organizations such as UNICEF and WHO to promote health education.
CAF officials, including Omar Amr (Safeguarding), Fatima Elmissaoui (ASFC officer), Herve Dassoundo (Marketing & Branding), Mahmoud Amer (Travel/Logistics), Diabate Zakarhiya (Safety & Security), Hend Thabet (Travel & Accommodation), Joshua Knipp (ASFC Competition), and Philippe Tchere, the Executive Director of WAFU B, will inspect the proposed competition venues and supporting facilities in Ikenne-Remo and Sagamu on Tuesday, February 3, and Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Their focus will be on the Remo Stars Stadium and training pitches in Ikenne-Remo, the FC Ebedei Stadium and training pitches in Sagamu, as well as local hospitals and hotel accommodations.
