By Abdulqadir Muhammad Alhaji

Residents of Gabar community in Ningi town, the headquarters of Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have expressed concern after floodwaters submerged parts of the area following heavy rainfall.

The flooding, which affected several homes and roads within the community, was reportedly caused by the absence of adequate drainage channels to effectively convey stormwater away from residential areas.

Affected residents said the situation has become a recurring challenge whenever there is heavy rainfall, noting that water often accumulates and overflows into homes, causing damage to property and disrupting daily activities.

Some residents called on the Ningi Local Government Council and relevant government agencies to urgently intervene by constructing and expanding drainage infrastructure in the area to prevent future occurrences.

They warned that if immediate measures are not taken, the continued flooding could pose risks to lives, property, and public health, especially during the peak of the rainy season.

The residents further appealed to authorities to prioritize flood control projects in the community, emphasizing that a sustainable drainage system would help protect lives and improve environmental sanitation in the area.
