The Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a fresh governorship primary election to determine its candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.
The ruling was delivered on Thursday by Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed following a suit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry, who challenged the emergence of Professor Isa Ali Pantami as the party’s governorship candidate.
According to reports by Daily Trust, Garry argued that the PDP did not conduct a valid governorship primary before announcing Pantami as its sole candidate on June 26, 2026.
Pantami, a former aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), joined the PDP after the APC adopted Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate.
He later secured the PDP ticket through a voice-vote endorsement during the party’s primary process held in May.
In her judgment, Justice Mohammed held that the PDP must conduct a fresh governorship primary in accordance with the party’s constitution, guidelines and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The court’s decision is expected to reopen the contest for the PDP governorship ticket in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
