Elder Bòsún Àrébùwà, FCA, has declared his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he and his supporters are moving into a new political era with a clear purpose.
Àrébùwà spoke in a press briefing with a Starnews reporter on Thursday morning a few minutes before the commencement of his official declaration programme, where he explained his decision to leave the PDP and join the APC.
The Ondo political leader, who serves as Grand Patron of the Renewed Hope Project 2027 in Ondo State and Patron of the South-West Zone, said his decision was not sudden, stressing that he had already communicated with his supporters and received their backing for the move.
“This is a defining moment. We are moving and no looking back. We have the purpose for which we are moving to APC now. This is the right time,” Àrébùwà said.
He assured his supporters that his grassroots engagement would not stop following his movement to the APC, but would instead be intensified.
According to him, his continued grassroots activities would form part of efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“My grassroots engagement is going to even be more this time around because we have the target of giving Mr. President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 100 per cent vote of Ondo State. So this needs a lot of work,” he said.
Àrébùwà added that his empowerment initiatives and engagement with communities would continue at a higher level, assuring supporters that his political activities would remain focused on the grassroots.
Reflecting on his long association with the PDP, Àrébùwà said he had been a member of the party since 1999 and had experienced its political journey over the years.
He, however, criticised what he described as a culture of self-deception within the party, saying he could no longer remain in an environment where he believed members were deceiving themselves.
“I’ve been in the PDP from 1999, the beginning of this political journey. I’ve been through it with them; I know them in and out,” he said.
“I just want to tell them that enough of deceiving themselves. PDP now is people deceiving people and deceiving themselves. So I’m moving on. If they continue to deceive themselves, they should go ahead and be deceiving themselves. Me, I can no longer be deceived.”
Àrébùwà said he believed his political experience and contributions had helped illuminate the path within the PDP, but maintained that he was now taking what he described as his “light” to the APC.
“I’ve seen, I brought light to PDP, but they are not ready for light. So I’m moving now with light to APC,” he added.
His formal defection is expected to mark a new phase in his political activities in Ondo State, particularly his grassroots mobilisation and involvement in the Renewed Hope Project 2027.
