A member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Sakwa Constituency, Hon. Wanzam Mohammed Zaki, has died after a brief illness.
The lawmaker passed away in the early hours of Sunday in Bauchi, bringing to an end a legislative career marked by public service and commitment to governance.
Until his death, Zaki served as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, where he played a key role in the state’s budgetary and oversight processes.
Announcing the sad development, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, described the late legislator as a devoted public servant who discharged his responsibilities with diligence and integrity.
In a statement issued through his spokesman on Sunday, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the Speaker expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of Hon. Mohammad Wanzam, member representing Sakwa Constituency,” the statement read.
The funeral prayer for the deceased was held on Sunday morning at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi, where family members, political associates and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects.
The Speaker prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the late lawmaker and asked that he be granted eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
Meanwhile, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed described the deceased as a humble, dedicated and patriotic leader whose contributions to legislative governance would be remembered.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said the late legislator distinguished himself through maturity, diligence and selfless service, particularly in his role as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.
Governor Mohammed noted that Zaki made valuable contributions to policy formulation and legislative oversight aimed at improving the welfare of the people of Bauchi State.
“His death is a great loss not only to his family and constituents but to the entire Bauchi State. We have lost a dependable legislator, a bridge-builder and a man whose humility and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and citizens alike,” the governor said.
He urged the people of Bauchi State to take solace in the enduring legacy of service, commitment and selflessness left behind by the late lawmaker, while praying that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus.
