Armed bandits have abducted the Chairman of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Hon. Salisu Dangulbi, after launching a deadly attack on his convoy that left several security operatives dead.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2026, along a road in Maru Local Government Area while the council chairman was travelling with his security escort. According to initial reports, the heavily armed assailants ambushed the convoy, opening fire on the security personnel before overpowering them and whisking the chairman away to an unknown destination.
The security operatives attached to Dangulbi reportedly engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle but were outnumbered.
Several officers were killed during the exchange, while others sustained injuries. However, authorities are yet to officially disclose the exact number of casualties.
Following the attack, security agencies launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and intensified search-and-rescue operations across the surrounding forests.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the abducted chairman remain unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The latest incident highlights the worsening security crisis in Zamfara State, where armed bandit groups continue to target public officials, communities and travellers despite ongoing military operations.
Residents have called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the chairman’s safe release and restore peace to the region.
