Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has warned that Nigeria could face serious consequences from the escalating geopolitical confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Baba-Ahmed raised the alarm during a recent interview on Trust TV, where he analysed the potential global implications of the intensifying Middle East crisis. Speaking from Nigeria, the former presidential adviser argued that Nigerians should not assume the country is insulated from the ripple effects of the conflict. He bluntly stated that “Nigeria too is in trouble”, warning that developments in Iran could trigger wider instability across the international system.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the reported air strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran (allegedly targeting senior Iranian political and military figures) could destabilise the region and provoke broader geopolitical tensions. He suggested that such actions appear aimed at forcing political change in Iran but cautioned that foreign interventions rarely unfold as planned.
The former Northern Elders Forum spokesperson stressed that global conflicts often produce economic shocks, energy disruptions, and security consequences that extend far beyond the battlefield. For Nigeria, he warned, the crisis could deepen economic uncertainty and heighten geopolitical vulnerability if global tensions continue to escalate.
