The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked a female motorist along the Ondo–Ile-Oluji Road, assuring residents that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The attack occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Otaasan area of the highway when the armed men reportedly opened fire on the vehicle of Mrs. Adebusoye Atinuke, a 50-year-old woman, in an apparent attempt to rob her.
Despite the attack, the victim escaped unhurt after courageously driving through the scene, forcing the assailants to abandon their operation and flee into a nearby bush without stealing any valuables.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said officers swiftly responded to the distress call and immediately launched a combing operation in the area.
According to him, investigators are working to identify and apprehend the suspects.
“Our operatives responded promptly to the scene and have commenced intensive combing of the surrounding area. Investigation is ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to identify, track and arrest the perpetrators,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, urging the public to remain calm while supporting security agencies with credible information.
He encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels to aid crime prevention.
The police also advised motorists, particularly those travelling during the evening or late hours, to remain vigilant, avoid isolated routes where possible, and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information capable of preventing criminal activities.
The command reiterated its determination to bring the fleeing suspects to justice and strengthen security along major highways across Ondo State.
