APM Intensifies Coalition Drive, Courts Opposition Support for Makinde’s 2027 Presidential Bid

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has stepped up efforts to build a broad opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying it is attracting support from across the political spectrum for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The party said its ongoing engagement with opposition political groups was progressing positively, expressing confidence that the emerging alliances would strengthen its chances in the next general election.

National Publicity Secretary of the APM, Abubakar Yusuf, disclosed this in Abuja while reacting to the endorsement of Makinde’s presidential aspiration by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State.

According to Yusuf, the renewed support from the Ekiti PDP chapter reflects increasing acceptance of Makinde as a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking a different direction in national leadership.

The party noted that thousands of PDP members and supporters reportedly gathered in Ado-Ekiti on Friday to reaffirm their backing for Makinde’s presidential bid while retaining their membership and structure within the PDP.

Yusuf described the development as a major boost to the party’s nationwide mobilisation efforts, insisting that the APM was contesting the 2027 election with the sole objective of winning.

He said Governor Makinde’s performance in Oyo State had earned him widespread public confidence, particularly among young Nigerians.

According to him, the governor’s record in infrastructure development, economic management, security, healthcare, education, agriculture and workers’ welfare continues to attract support beyond party lines.

The APM spokesman said the party was strengthening its grassroots structures while expanding consultations with like-minded political organisations to build what he described as a formidable national movement.

He added that the party would run an issue-driven campaign centred on accountable leadership, transparent governance, economic recovery and improved national security.

Yusuf also invited Nigerians who share the party’s vision for national renewal to join the APM, assuring that the party would prioritise the welfare, prosperity and security of citizens if elected into office in 2027.
