Former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has expressed deep concern over recurring violence in Plateau State, describing the situation as tragic despite the state’s vast natural endowments.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Sani painted a vivid picture of the state’s rich environmental and economic potential, noting that it possesses unique features largely absent in other parts of the country.
He highlighted Plateau’s rolling hills, temperate climate, fertile soil, waterfalls, and mineral resources, describing it as “a divinely blessed rock of gold and diamonds.”
However, the former senator lamented that the state continues to be plagued by cycles of violence, which he said have overshadowed its beauty and potential.
“Anything on earth you plant can grow on the Plateau except peace,” he wrote, emphasizing the persistence of insecurity and bloodshed in the region.
Sani further noted the contradiction between the state’s global appeal as a tourist destination and the fear generated by recurring conflicts, warning that the situation undermines its image and development prospects.
He concluded with a call for peace, urging an end to the violence that has claimed lives and disrupted communities across the state.
Plateau State has witnessed repeated outbreaks of communal clashes and attacks over the years, raising concerns among stakeholders about the need for lasting solutions to restore stability in the region.
