Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, have foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued a middle-aged man and his teenage son in Ondo State.
The victim, Segun Makinde, recounted how he and his 15-year-old son were abducted by suspected kidnappers on March 27, 2026, shortly after arriving at their residence in the Pelebe area on the outskirts of Akure.
The Corps Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, had earlier confirmed the incident, stating that the victims were seized between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
According to Adeleye, operatives of the Amotekun Rapid Response Squad tracked the kidnappers to a forest hideout, where they engaged them in a gun battle at about 1:00 a.m., forcing the assailants to flee and abandon their captives.
Recounting the ordeal, Makinde said the gunmen stormed his residence, shot at his vehicle, and forcefully took him and his son into the bush after injuring him.
He added that the kidnappers, initially about five in number, were later reinforced by more armed accomplices as they moved deeper into the forest.
“They made us walk for several hours, beating me and threatening to kill us if we resisted,” he said.
Makinde explained that an opportunity to escape emerged when they heard voices nearby, unaware that Amotekun operatives had already closed in on the kidnappers.
“As we attempted to flee, the kidnappers opened fire, but the operatives responded immediately. Amid the confusion, we ran further into the bush,” he said.
He noted that the operatives eventually located and rescued them after they had taken cover.
The victims were given immediate medical attention before being taken to the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
“They attended to us and ensured our safety. I sincerely appreciate their prompt response,” Makinde added.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of the state, even as local security outfits intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities.
