American rap icon Snoop Dogg has expressed his desire to contribute more to making Swansea City one of the top football clubs.
The artist known for “Drop it Like it’s Hot” stated that he aims to transform the club into a “global name.”
At 54, Snoop Dogg became a co-owner and investor in Swansea after acquiring a minority stake in the Championship club last July.
He mentioned that he has “always wanted to invest in a soccer team” and is eager to assist Swansea in generating revenue to support their goal of returning to the Premier League.
“I want to be actively involved and guide the club in a new direction,” he told Wales Online.
“Our objective is to take Swansea to the Premier League, and to achieve that, we need funding—it’s the reality of modern football.”
He plans to introduce sponsorship deals and marketing strategies that will enhance the club’s global visibility.
The West Coast rapper has sold over 30 million albums worldwide but has yet to attend a Swansea match, although his son Cordell Broadus was present in the directors’ box during the Welsh team’s draw with Watford last August.
American billionaire Martha Stewart, who joined Snoop Dogg and Real Madrid legend Luka Modric as a co-owner in December, attended a game against Wrexham shortly before Christmas.
Swansea has indicated that Snoop Dogg is expected to attend a game this season, though a specific date has not been confirmed for his appearance at the Swansea.com Stadium.
“I genuinely want to connect with the fans,” Snoop Dogg said.
“These fans are passionate and authentic, and I want to hear their thoughts when I visit Swansea.”
He added that investing in a soccer team has been a long-held dream of his, and he was simply waiting for the right opportunity.
Modric was the first high-profile celebrity to join Swansea, being named a co-owner last April.
Swansea’s American ownership group, led by Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen, believes that attracting prominent figures to the board will enhance the club’s profile and subsequently increase revenue.
