A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, 38, over alleged conspiracy and forgery relating to his purported position as Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Justice Mohammed Umar issued the order on Wednesday after Adeniyi pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge brought against him and two other suspects, identified as Femi and Anu.
The two other defendants are reportedly at large.
Following Adeniyi’s plea, the prosecution urged the court to remand him in custody pending further proceedings.
Justice Umar subsequently ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.
The court is expected to hear arguments on the bail application at a later date.
The charges against Adeniyi centre on allegations of conspiracy and forgery. He is accused of presenting himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC.
The defendant has, however, pleaded not guilty to all eight counts, meaning the allegations remain to be established in court.
