Senate President Godswill Akpabio has thrown his weight behind a message many states in Nigeria may find difficult to ignore: Lagos has become the template of modern governance that others must study and emulate. His praise for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was not just political flattery; it was a direct endorsement of governance built on infrastructure, fiscal discipline, and visible service delivery.
This development was reported on April 9, 2026, during the commissioning of three major Lagos projects—the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographical Information System Building, and the Multi-Agency Building—where Akpabio said governance must be judged by results, not rhetoric. His remarks reflect a growing recognition that Lagos has remained ahead because it invests in systems, not slogans.
The deeper lesson is that development in Nigeria will remain uneven until many governors abandon cosmetic politics and embrace disciplined planning. Lagos is not perfect, but it has shown that leadership, continuity, and financial order can produce measurable progress.
If other states truly want a modern Nigeria, they must stop making excuses and start building.
