The Ondo State Government has dismissed allegations that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is responsible for the crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, describing the claims as false, divisive and uncharitable.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Debo Akinbami, PhD, was reacting to remarks attributed to APC chieftain, Hon. Demola Ijabiyi, who reportedly accused Aiyedatiwa of fueling internal disagreements within the party.
Akinbami said the allegations were part of attempts by “mischievous persons” to drag the governor into unnecessary controversies and destabilise the party.
He also alleged that a meeting held in Akure by Ijabiyi and some party stakeholders, which was presented as a pro-President Bola Tinubu gathering, was instead used to launch attacks against Governor Aiyedatiwa.
According to the governor’s aide, Aiyedatiwa has consistently pursued reconciliation within the APC by engaging party leaders and members, listening to stakeholders and promoting unity across the party.
“It is important to stress, for the umpteenth time, that Governor Aiyedatiwa pursues peace with all party leaders and members, accommodates all, listens to and holds party elders in esteem. The Governor neither discriminates nor harbours grudges against any person,” the statement said.
Akinbami maintained that the governor remains focused on strengthening the APC in Ondo State through dialogue and reconciliation, adding that efforts were ongoing to reposition the party ahead of future political engagements.
He criticised Ijabiyi for allegedly undermining the reconciliation process, saying party elders should support ongoing peace efforts rather than make public statements capable of deepening divisions.
The aide advised Ijabiyi and other aggrieved party members to engage the governor through established channels if they had concerns, insisting that Aiyedatiwa was open to constructive dialogue.
He urged all APC stakeholders in the state to support the governor’s reconciliation efforts in the interest of party unity and stability.
