The Ondo State Government has taken a significant step toward building a sustainable and robust security architecture by approving a comprehensive welfare package for officers and men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun.
Speaking with journalists, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, highlighted that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s initiative is designed to boost the morale of security operatives and enhance their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
The welfare package includes the enlistment of Amotekun personnel into the Ondo State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, granting operatives and their families access to quality healthcare services.
Commissioner Ajanaku described this as part of the administration’s deliberate effort to improve both the welfare and productivity of personnel on the frontlines of security operations.
Furthermore, Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved the issuance of Warrants of Service Enlistment to officers and personnel, pending the completion of the required legal framework.
This step is expected to strengthen the institutional framework of the corps and enhance operational efficiency.
Amotekun operatives will also benefit from the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), in addition to the existing life insurance coverage.
The Commissioner emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to recognizing the dedication and sacrifices of security personnel in maintaining peace and order in Ondo State.
On security preparations for the festive season, Ajanaku confirmed that 650 operatives have been strategically deployed across the state’s 18 local government areas to ensure safety during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Commissioner also reported that the Ondo State Security Network Agency recently arrested 98 suspected criminals, including individuals posing as mentally ill, linked to kidnapping and robbery.
He stressed that these arrests demonstrate the agency’s resolve to combat criminality and reinforce public confidence in the state’s security system.
