The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has cleared three months’ salary arrears owed workers of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and confirmed the appointment of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as the substantive rector of the institution.
Aiyedatiwa also approved the constitution of a committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at the polytechnic.
The development followed engagements between the state government, the institution’s management and labour unions over the harmonisation of salary payments.
The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, has as members Dr. Wunmi Ilawole, Mr. Olaleye Phillips, Mr. Asonja Oluwole Festus and Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye.
According to the government, the committee is mandated to liaise with the management of the institution, labour unions and relevant state agencies to audit payroll data, reconcile discrepancies and recommend a sustainable payment structure.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said the payment of the outstanding arrears was aimed at stabilising the institution and restoring confidence among both academic and non-academic staff.
In a related development, the governor confirmed Dr. Adegun as the substantive rector of the institution. Adegun had been serving in an acting capacity since October 2024.
Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and the effective functioning of state-owned tertiary institutions.
