Aisha Yesufu Withdraws From FCT Senate Race

Popular activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has officially withdrawn from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial race following the cancellation of senatorial primaries by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The development has sparked fresh political discussions within opposition circles ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu, who recently declared her intention to contest for the FCT Senate seat under the NDC platform, said her decision became necessary after the party leadership suspended the senatorial primary process.

She maintained that her political involvement was driven by a desire to contribute to good governance, accountability, and national development rather than personal ambition.

The activist also expressed disappointment over internal party decisions surrounding the primaries, though she reaffirmed her commitment to democratic participation and civic advocacy.

Political observers say her withdrawal represents another sign of growing internal challenges within emerging opposition coalitions ahead of the next election cycle.

Aisha Yesufu became nationally recognized for her strong activism during the #BringBackOurGirls and #EndSARS protests, where she consistently advocated for justice, transparency, and human rights in Nigeria’s democratic system.
