Again, gunmen attack Plateau community, seven killed

At least seven persons were killed on Friday night when gunmen attacked a community in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack occurred in Bong village, Doemak District, where the assailants reportedly moved from house to house, shooting residents. Eyewitnesses in Jos said the attackers targeted women, children and elderly persons.

Residents described the gunmen as heavily armed, noting that many of those killed were unable to flee during the assault.

Confirming the incident, a native of the area, Mr Lawrence Dogari, said more than seven people lost their lives, adding that some residents were still unaccounted for. “For now, I can confirm to you that over seven persons have been killed, while some persons are still missing,” he said.

The Director of Press and Publicity to the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, also confirmed the attack, explaining that the exact number of casualties had yet to be determined.

According to him, the council chairman, Hon. Christopher Audu Manship, condemned the killing of innocent residents and was working with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are arrested. He added that updates would be provided as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, could not be reached for comments, as he did not respond to repeated calls.

The latest attack adds to a series of violent incidents in Plateau communities in recent times. On Christmas Eve, gunmen also attacked the Bum community in Jos South Local Government Area, killing seven persons.
