Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has pledged to personally cover his accommodation and travel expenses as he participates in the investigation into the deaths of 37 suspected miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

Adeyanju made the commitment in a Facebook post on Wednesday, saying he would not accept any payment for his participation in the investigative process.

“As promised, I will not take a penny and will take care of all my expenses including accommodation and travel expenses,” he wrote.

He added: “We must get justice for those innocent kids.”

The statement was accompanied by photographs showing Adeyanju seated before members of the investigative committee, as well as a group photograph of committee members and other officials.

The development follows the inauguration of an independent committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the 37 suspected miners in NSCDC custody.

The committee has been mandated to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish the facts relating to the deaths.

Adeyanju’s pledge to personally fund his participation underscores his stated commitment to the investigation and the pursuit of justice for the deceased.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain subject to the committee’s investigation.
