Adeleke orders tighter security in Osun border communities after Kwara attack

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has directed an increase in security measures across border communities of the state following the recent terror attack in neighbouring Kwara State.

The governor also commiserated with the government and people of Kwara State over the attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, describing the incident as a deeply painful tragedy.

In a statement shared on his X page, Adeleke said the Osun State Government would continue to closely monitor developments while working with security agencies to prevent the spread of violence into the state.

He said he was saddened by reports of the mass killing of innocent residents in the affected communities and extended the sympathy of the Osun State Government and its people to Kwara State over the tragic incident.

Adeleke added that residents of Osun State shared in the grief of the affected communities, noting that the state stood in solidarity with Kwara at such a difficult time while offering prayers for the bereaved families and those injured.

The governor stated that security operations had been intensified around Osun’s border areas to forestall any possible escalation of violence into the state.

However, he expressed concern that the continued sealing of the Amotekun Corps by the police had weakened the state’s security response, especially in rural and border areas where the outfit has demonstrated expertise in intelligence-led operations and containment.

Adeleke called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately unseal the Amotekun office and ensure that all detained Amotekun officers are charged to court, noting that they had been held without trial for several months.

He warned that further delays posed serious risks to rural communities and created security gaps already being exploited by criminals and bandits.

The governor reaffirmed Osun State’s commitment to regional cooperation, proactive security measures and the full deployment of lawful structures needed to safeguard residents at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of troops to curb the activities of terrorists and protect vulnerable communities in Kwara State.
