Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and rising living costs across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abuja, Nigeria — Friday, May 22, 2026. Speaking on national issues and governance, Adebayo stated that Nigerians are currently facing severe economic pressure due to what he described as poor governance and ineffective policy implementation.
He argued that the 2027 elections would largely reflect public dissatisfaction with the current state of the economy and security situation.
The SDP chieftain also faulted the administration’s handling of the electricity sector, insisting that many Nigerians have seen little improvement in power supply despite promises made during the 2023 election campaign.
According to him, governance should be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of citizens rather than political influence or alliances.
Adebayo maintained that the opposition must focus on presenting practical solutions and issue-based campaigns instead of relying solely on public anger against the ruling party.
He expressed confidence that Nigerians are seeking a credible political alternative capable of addressing insecurity, economic instability, unemployment, and governance failures.
Political observers say growing concerns over inflation, insecurity, electricity challenges, and the high cost of living are increasingly shaping political discussions as parties and political figures begin positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
