ADC Convoy Comes Under Gunfire in Edo, Supporter Injured

BENIN CITY — October 7, 2026: The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that its campaign convoy came under gunfire in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, with a party supporter reportedly sustaining gunshot injuries.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during political engagements involving ADC chieftain Kenneth Imasuangbon and the party’s Edo Central senatorial candidate, Herberta Okonofua. Both politicians reportedly escaped unharmed.

According to the ADC, its supporter, Jerry Oliha, was shot at the premises of the Enogie of Igueben and taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital for treatment.

The party alleged that the convoy was attacked on three occasions in the local government area, including incidents in Ward 4 and Ward 5, and accused political loyalists of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of involvement.

The ADC specifically alleged that Endurance Azemegbe, chairman of Igueben Local Government Council, led the attackers. Azemegbe, however, denied the allegation, saying he was not in Igueben when the incident occurred and only learnt about it from journalists.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the command could not immediately confirm the incident but would investigate once a formal report was received.

The ADC has described the incident as part of a wider pattern of alleged attacks on opposition members in Edo and called for investigation.

The latest development has raised fresh concerns about political security in Edo as parties intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For now, however, the allegations against the council chairman and any suspected attackers remain unproven, pending a police investigation and other independent findings.
