Governorship candidates contesting the 2027 election in Adamawa State have signed a peace accord, pledging to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid actions capable of undermining the electoral process.
The candidates, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Galadima Aminu, signed the accord at the Adamawa State Government House in Yola.
The agreement commits the candidates to peaceful, issue-based and violence-free campaigns as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima and the other candidates also pledged to promote political tolerance, peaceful participation and respect for democratic processes throughout the electioneering period.
The peace accord is aimed at strengthening unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among political parties, candidates and their supporters across Adamawa State.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, supporters of Galadima urged political actors and their supporters to remain law-abiding and avoid conduct that could threaten peace and security in the state.
They also called on stakeholders to embrace politics without bitterness and focus their campaigns on issues affecting the people of Adamawa.
The supporters stressed that political differences should not be allowed to divide the state, urging candidates and their supporters to maintain peace before, during and after the elections.
“Adamawa is one, and peace is non-negotiable,” they said.
The signing of the accord comes as political parties and their candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders calling for peaceful campaigns, tolerance and respect for democratic processes.
