Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has opened up about why she has chosen not to remarry following the breakdown of her first marriage, revealing that her decision is centred on the well-being of her child.

In a recent Instagram video, the film star explained that while she has met “amazing men” over the years, love alone is no longer enough to guide such an important decision.

Adegbite said the responsibilities of single motherhood have reshaped how she approaches relationships, stressing that any future partner must also be capable of being a positive parental figure.

Reflecting on a conversation with a friend, she said the question of remarriage prompted her to think deeply about what truly matters.

According to her, single parents must look beyond companionship and carefully consider the kind of influence a partner would have on their child.

She noted that choosing a partner now means choosing someone who can share in the responsibility of raising a child, with the right values, character and sense of responsibility.

“You are not just choosing a partner for yourself, you are choosing a second parent,” she said, adding that it is vital to ensure such a person can genuinely care for a child as their own.

Adegbite emphasised that building a relationship, in her case, also means building a stable and nurturing home environment for her child.

She urged others in similar situations to be intentional and thoughtful, noting that such decisions shape not only personal happiness but also a child’s future.

The actress was previously married to fellow actor Chris Attoh, whom she met on the set of the popular soap opera Tinsel. The pair got engaged in August 2014 and welcomed their son, Brian, shortly afterwards.

However, their marriage ended in 2017.
