Abuja Uber Driver Allegedly Killed by Suspected Car Snatchers

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory have expressed growing concerns over insecurity in Abuja following reports that an Uber driver was allegedly killed by suspected car snatchers in Zone 6 of the city.

According to information circulating on social media, the incident reportedly occurred on the night of Thursday, May 28, 2026. The victim, said to be a father of four who lived in the Jabi area of Abuja, was allegedly attacked and killed while carrying out his duties as an e-hailing driver.

The tragic development has sparked fresh fears among residents and commercial drivers, especially operators of ride-hailing services who have repeatedly complained about rising cases of “one-chance” robberies, kidnappings and violent attacks across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the Nigeria Police Force regarding the alleged killing or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Security concerns in Abuja have continued to generate public attention in recent months, with authorities intensifying surveillance and patrol operations in several parts of the city.

The Inspector-General of Police Disu had earlier directed tighter security measures nationwide, including within the FCT, to combat violent crimes and protect residents.

The reported incident has also renewed calls for stronger security measures for e-hailing drivers, many of whom often work late into the night and remain vulnerable to attacks by criminal elements posing as passengers.

Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary late-night movement and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
