United States President Donald Trump has claimed that American forces destroyed and sank nine Iranian naval ships during recent military operations targeting Iran’s military infrastructure.
In a statement through his official X page, Trump said he had been informed that several of the vessels destroyed were “relatively large and important,” describing the strikes as a significant blow to Iran’s naval capabilities.
“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk nine Iranian naval ships, some of them relatively large and important,” the US president said.
He added that a separate attack also caused extensive damage to Iran’s naval headquarters.
“In a different attack, we largely destroyed their naval headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!” Trump remarked, in what appeared to be a sarcastic comment.
The statement comes amid escalating military tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran following a series of coordinated strikes that have heightened fears of wider regional conflict.
Iranian authorities have yet to officially respond to the claims at the time of filing this report.
