The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed what he described as the opposition’s overconfidence ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that Nigeria’s presidency cannot be won through mere political rhetoric.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Bwari Water Supply Network in Abuja, Wike said those aspiring to unseat President Bola Tinubu must understand that electoral victory requires careful planning, organisation and political strategy.
The inauguration formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
According to Wike, President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have already begun preparations for the next presidential contest.
“I have told those who say they want to be in power that it is not by ‘chochocho.’ Becoming president is not about making noise. You don’t just wake up one morning and declare you want to be president. It doesn’t happen that way,” he said.
“We are prepared. The President is prepared, and everyone who has what it takes is also prepared.”
The FCT minister said the commissioning of the Bwari Water Supply Network represents the 50th project inaugurated under the Tinubu administration since the President assumed office on May 29, 2023.
He maintained that the Federal Government would continue to deliver infrastructure and other developmental projects across the Federal Capital Territory as part of its commitment to improving the welfare of residents.
Wike’s comments come amid increasing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition parties stepping up consultations and coalition talks in a bid to challenge the ruling APC.
