2027: Peter Obi Pledges Monthly Town Halls, Visits to All 36 States

By George Omagbemi

ABUJA — October 12, 2026. Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has promised to hold monthly town hall meetings and visit all 36 states annually if elected president in 2027.

Obi made the pledge during a live session on TikTok, where he discussed his proposed approach to leadership and citizen engagement ahead of the next general election.

According to reports of the session, the former Labour Party presidential candidate said the proposed town hall meetings would provide regular opportunities for Nigerians to raise concerns, ask questions and contribute to discussions on national development.

He also promised to visit every state each year, a move intended to strengthen direct engagement with communities and give him firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing residents across the country.

The commitments place public consultation and accessibility at the centre of Obi’s stated vision for governance. However, the effectiveness of such engagements would depend on how concerns raised by citizens are documented, addressed and translated into government policies.

Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party and has remained a prominent figure in discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential race.

His latest pledge comes as political actors begin presenting their priorities and proposed approaches to leadership ahead of the election.

While the proposed meetings and state visits could provide a platform for greater public participation, the report did not provide a detailed implementation plan or explain how the meetings would be organised and monitored.

The commitments therefore remain political promises whose practical implementation would depend on the outcome of the election and the arrangements put in place by any future administration.
