In a passionate address to citizens on Tuesday, Engr Omosuyi Olumide, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Federal House of Representatives in Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency of Ondo State, has called for a transformative approach to development, criticising the common practice of weak empowerment initiatives in the region.
In a press release he personally signed, the Ode Aye born poltician lamented the practice of giving out grinding machine and cash of N50,000 as empowerment to constituents. He said: “Too often, we see lawmakers parading around with so-called empowerment programmes that amount to little more than tokenism. Offering training without tangible skills and providing a mere ₦50,000 grant is not genuine empowerment; it is a disservice to our people,” Omosuyi stated. “Our constituents deserve better than these superficial gestures that fail to address the root causes of poverty and unemployment.”
Omosuyi emphasised the need to shift from outdated methods of development that simply scratch the surface. “It’s time we move beyond the old order of handing out grinding machines and calling it empowerment. We need to invest in real skill development, vocational training, and sustainable job creation that leads to long-term economic growth,” he asserted.
He further highlighted the importance of creating an environment where entrepreneurs can thrive and young people can acquire relevant skills for today’s job market. “Real empowerment means equipping our people with the tools they need to succeed. We must foster a culture of innovation and support local businesses, ensuring that the wealth generated stays in our communities,” Omosuyi added.
As the 2027 elections draw near, Starnews NG reports that Omosuyi’s campaign is focused on advocating for genuine development that prioritises the welfare of the people in Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency.
“Together, we can build a future where every individual has the opportunity to succeed, and where empowerment is not just a buzzword but a reality,” he stated, rallying his supporters for a collective push towards meaningful change.
