Former aspirant for the Bauchi State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajia Zainab Baban-Takko, has officially withdrawn from the race to represent Bauchi Central Constituency in the party’s forthcoming primaries.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Baban-Takko said her decision followed “deep reflection, consultation, and careful consideration” of the developments surrounding the ongoing primary election process within the party.
The former aspirant expressed concern over what she described as the disregard for certain electoral guidelines and democratic procedures expected to guarantee fairness, transparency, and credibility during the exercise.
According to her, the processes leading to the primaries were “unfortunately not favorable,” noting that democracy can only thrive where established rules are respected and all participants are given confidence in the system.
“As someone who strongly believes in due process, institutional integrity, and the sanctity of democratic principles, I believe it is important to remain consistent with the values we publicly advocate for,” she stated.
Baban-Takko stressed that her withdrawal should not be viewed as an act of bitterness or political defeat, but rather as a principled stand rooted in integrity and personal conviction.
“Leadership, above all else, must be rooted in integrity, restraint, and the courage to stand by one’s convictions,” she added.
She, however, expressed appreciation to her supporters, political associates, women, youths, elders, and well-wishers who stood by her throughout the political journey through prayers, encouragement, and sacrifices.
The APC chieftain also appealed to her supporters to remain peaceful, calm, and law-abiding despite the circumstances surrounding her withdrawal.
“Politics should never come at the expense of peace, unity, and mutual respect among our people,” she cautioned.
Baban-Takko further reaffirmed her commitment to public service, justice, and meaningful contributions to society, while praying for democratic processes that would continue to strengthen fairness and reflect the genuine will of the people.
She concluded by submitting her affairs to the will of Allah, saying only God knows what is best at every moment and in every situation.
Hajia Zainab Baban-Takko contested for the APC ticket to represent Bauchi Central Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
