DAMATURU — September 30, 2026: The Yobe State Government says it has paid more than N6 billion in pension and gratuity entitlements to 4,271 local government retirees and other beneficiaries since 2022, as the state continues efforts to clear outstanding retirement benefits.
The payments, made over the period, include entitlements to retired local government workers and the next of kin of deceased retirees, according to the state government.
The figure was disclosed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as the government highlighted its pension and gratuity payments under Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, reportedly commended the governor’s commitment to addressing outstanding pension obligations.
The government’s disclosure means the N6 billion is a cumulative amount paid since 2022, rather than a single disbursement made in 2026.
With 4,271 beneficiaries covered, the payments represent a significant portion of the state’s efforts to settle retirement-related obligations owed to former local government employees and other eligible beneficiaries.
Pension and gratuity arrears remain a major issue for retirees across Nigeria, with beneficiaries in several states continuing to demand payment of outstanding entitlements.
For those covered by the Yobe payments, the disbursements are expected to provide relief to retirees and families awaiting pension and gratuity benefits.
