Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello has officially entered the 2027 senatorial contest after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for the Kogi Central seat, intensifying early political positioning in the district.
May 2, 2026 — Bello’s move comes amid growing alignment within APC structures in Kogi State, where several stakeholders have been mobilising support for his return to elective office following his two-term governorship tenure.
Party insiders say the development signals a strategic attempt to consolidate influence in the senatorial district ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bello had earlier declared his intention to contest the Kogi Central Senate seat during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he formally accepted calls from traditional rulers, political stakeholders, and party loyalists urging him to represent the district at the National Assembly.
The Kogi Central senatorial zone, which includes Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, Okene, and Ogori-Magongo, remains a politically strategic constituency with a history of competitive electoral battles and strong party mobilization.
