A woman identified as Doris Emmanuel is battling for her life in hospital after she was allegedly brutally stabbed by her former husband in a near-fatal attack in Jalingo.
The shocking incident reportedly occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the victim’s residence in the New Era community of the Taraba State capital.
Family members identified the suspect as Godlove Nicodemus, who was said to have separated from the victim about six years ago before allegedly storming her new matrimonial home and attacking her with a knife while her husband was away.
Speaking with Starnews NG during a telephone interview on Thursday, the victim’s nephew, Regina Gemi, said Doris Emmanuel narrowly escaped death after sustaining severe injuries during the attack.
She explained that the suspect fled immediately after the stabbing and has remained on the run since the incident occurred.
According to the family, the victim was rushed to a hospital in Taraba State, where doctors are battling to stabilize her condition.
“I thank God for saving my sister’s life. This man, the police are looking for him. He wanted to end my sister’s life but God did not allow him,” Regina said emotionally.
The family disclosed that the matter has been formally reported to the police at the Jalingo Divisional Police Station, while security operatives have reportedly launched efforts to locate and arrest the suspect.
Relatives further alleged that the suspect works with a local primary education board in the state and worships at Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Mayo Dasa branch in Jalingo, alongside the victim.
They appealed to members of the public with useful information about the suspect’s whereabouts to assist law enforcement authorities in tracking him down.
The alleged attack has triggered outrage and concern among residents of the community, with many condemning the growing cases of domestic and gender-based violence across the country and calling for swift justice.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force in Taraba State had not released an official statement on the incident.
