I have done so many things to avoid certain topics in marriage discussions, most especially why women commit adultery in marriages. As a former pastor in MFM, privileged to pastor a branch and a zone, God has used me greatly in different dimensions, thus acquiring diverse experiences. My experiences transcended beyond MFM and RCCG, both of which I was privileged to pastor as God’s servant to lead the congregation. So, I can actually say one or two things about marriage, not just as a pastor, but also as a married man with grown-up kids, by God’s grace.
But in all honesty, I am avoiding speaking about broken homes caused by adultery, most especially due to the unfaithfulness of women. Don’t get me wrong; I am not exonerating my male folk. They’re actually the greatest cheaters in marriages. But as you know, in Africa, cheating by a male partner is not actually an excuse for the woman to cheat or divorce her husband. However, when a woman cheats, it is viewed as morally and traditionally wrong.
So, for those pressing me to speak about why women cheat in marriage, I am surprised to disappoint you that despite my 15 years of experience in the work of God as a pastor, I can’t tell you this is one particular reason women are cheating on their husbands in marriages. Severally, God has used me to settle marital disputes and save many homes from breaking up, and to even restore broken relationships. But despite all of these, I insist, I don’t really know why women are cheating.
Apart from satanic attacks, which you cannot rule out, especially in Christian homes, honestly, I repeat, I have never seen any reason given by women in the course of my experiences with families that is strong enough to justify adultery. Ironically, in most cases I have handled, some women descended so low to even sleep with men lower than their husbands in everything. This is the most ironic aspect of my experience with most women. Initially, I was thinking most women guilty of this may not have sexually active husbands, but I was wrong after becoming a pastor and having the privilege of settling many family disputes arising from sexual immorality on the part of the woman.
Just like the Biblical Eve, most women are fond of lying against the devil whenever they commit adultery. For a good Bible student, you need no one to tell you that everything was good and working very well when God created the heavens and the earth in Genesis until Eve, a woman, was formed and created from the rib of Adam. Women are naturally the weaker vessels, prone to greed and ravenously desperate for new tastes without them minding the consequences the moment the rage is in them.
To the unmarried, my only advice for you is to pray for your future wife or husband who has the fear of God. To the married, you have a prayer point already. As you are already married, the woman or man you married is your cross and your prayer point. Sincerely, it is not always about self-discipline, but about the relationship we have with God individually and our fear of Him.
