OKITIPUPA, ONDO STATE — Recent reports suggesting that the 27.5-kilometre Okitipupa–Igbokoda dualisation project had been abandoned prompted Starnews NG to visit the project site on Friday. Upon our visit, our correspondent observed workers and construction equipment at different sections of the road, while drainage work was also ongoing.

The visit showed that construction is actively in progress under the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, despite the challenging impact of rainfall on conditions at the site.
Although some residents expressed concern about the pace of construction, the assessment confirmed that the project has not been abandoned and is currently progressing, with construction workers actively working at various locations visited on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Some residents told us about the slow pace of work by contractors, alleging that the speed was low, while acknowledging that activities were still taking place actively. They said they looked forward to the timely completion of the project because of the road’s importance to transportation, trade and movement across the area.
Meanwhile, some workers who spoke under anonymity said the speed of construction was not slow. They said not all residents would understand some of the technical aspects involved in the ongoing construction.
“It is understandable that some residents may not fully appreciate the technical aspects of the project. The pace of work differs from one location to another, depending on the terrain and the specific construction requirements at each section,” one of the workers said.
However, Starnews correspondent reports that persistent rainfall was also observed to be affecting the pace of work. Several sections of the road were slippery, making it difficult for heavy machinery to operate and slowing some earthworks.
Drainage construction remains one of the major activities currently taking place at the time of writing this report. The work is expected to improve the road’s durability and help manage water during and after the rainy season.
The presence of workers and equipment at the site indicates that the project remains active. The progress made so far is impressive. Although the pace has been affected by rainfall and other site conditions, Starnews NG can report that the 27.5-kilometre dualisation project on the Okitipupa–Igbokoda Road in Ondo State, is still receiving attention from the Aiyedatiwa administration.
