Dayo Akinsuroju, former Local Government Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo, has emerged as another casualty in the deepening crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.
His ordeal comes on the heels of Tuesday’s violent disruption of the party’s stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, where suspected thugs allegedly attacked party leaders ahead of the ward congresses.
Recall that Star NG reports that the armed group, carrying cutlasses and other weapons, forced attendees out of the secretariat while shouting, “This is Ondo State, and nobody can control Ondo from Abuja.” Several party officials were reportedly assaulted, with some women and elders who tried to protect others also injured.
Although details surrounding his specific encounter remain sketchy, insiders described him as one of several prominent figures affected by the ongoing turmoil.
The crisis has been linked to the escalating political rivalry surrounding the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, with accusations and counter-accusations trailing recent developments within the party.
Some aggrieved members have alleged intimidation and exclusion in the build-up to the ward congresses.
