Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, attended the eighth edition of SHOUT, an annual Christian gospel music concert held at the Trade Fair Complex in Minna.
During the event, Governor Bago joined worshippers on stage and led the congregation in singing several Christian worship songs, including “I’m a new creation, I’m born again, old things have passed away.”
Bago, a practising Muslim, said everyone had the right to worship God, adding that diversity should promote peaceful coexistence and prosperity.
He attended the concert with his Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, and other members of the State Executive Council.
In a statement, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, said Bago’s participation reflected the administration’s “New Niger” vision of promoting religious tolerance, inclusiveness and unity across the state.
A video of the Governor singing was widely shared on social media platforms, including X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram. While some users questioned the political motivation behind his appearance, the event convener, Pastor PeteRock Sadiq, praised the Governor for his consistent attendance and support for the Christian community since assuming office.
