Update: NAF Confirms Aircraft Crash In Ondo, Launches Rescue Operation

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed an aircraft accident in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, saying it has commenced an immediate search and rescue operation.

The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, while the aircraft was reportedly on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday.

According to him, the search and rescue operation is being carried out in collaboration with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced an immediate Search and Rescue operation following an ATR-42 aircraft accident in Igbokoda Area of Ondo State on 5th October 2026,” Ejodame said.

The crash was reportedly recorded in the early hours of Monday around Larada Street in Ilaje, with reports indicating that the aircraft plunged into a river.

Emergency responders and security agencies have since been mobilised to the area as efforts continue to locate and assist those who may have been involved in the incident.

The number of people on board and their identities were yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

The cause of the accident also remained unknown.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, also confirmed the incident.
