The United Nations (UN) has formally requested the arrival details of Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative-designate, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim CFR, ahead of his assumption of diplomatic duties at the global organisation’s headquarters in New York, United States. The request was communicated through an official message sent to Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN, asking for Ibrahim’s expected travel date and flight information to facilitate diplomatic arrangements.
According to diplomatic sources, the UN protocol office requires the information to organise a formal airport reception and diplomatic courtesy for the Nigerian envoy upon his arrival. The gesture is part of standard international protocol granted to newly accredited ambassadors before they formally begin their assignments at the world body.
Senator Ibrahim was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025 as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. His appointment places him at the centre of Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with the UN system, where ambassadors represent their countries in global policy negotiations and international cooperation frameworks.
Following his arrival in New York and the completion of protocol formalities, Ibrahim is expected to present his Letter of Credence to the UN Secretary-General, a ceremonial step that officially recognises him as Nigeria’s representative to the international organisation.
