President Donald Trump has said that Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed willingness to help in efforts aimed at resolving tensions involving Iran and ensuring stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking in a Fox News interview following a recent summit, Trump said Xi indicated openness to playing a mediating role if needed.
According to Trump, Xi stated that he would be willing to assist in any way possible to support diplomatic efforts.
Trump quoted Xi as saying he would “like to be of help” and expressed interest in seeing the Strait of Hormuz remain open amid ongoing regional tensions.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route for oil exports, and any disruption is often closely watched by energy markets worldwide.
Trump noted that China’s heavy reliance on Iranian oil gives Beijing significant economic ties to the region, suggesting this could influence its diplomatic involvement.
He added that discussions around energy security and regional stability remain central to ongoing international engagements involving major global powers.
There has been no independent confirmation from Chinese authorities regarding the specific details of Trump’s remarks.
