U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that a 10‑point proposal reportedly submitted by Iran offers a “workable basis on which to negotiate,” even as the two sides implement a temporary ceasefire and de‑escalation framework in the ongoing conflict. This development was reported today, April 8, 2026, following intense diplomatic activity and the announcement of a provisional two‑week suspension of attacks after Tehran agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Under the emerging terms, Trump agreed to halt planned bombardments of Iranian infrastructure and declared a double‑sided ceasefire, contingent on Iran’s reopening of the critical shipping route and cooperation in negotiations.
Trump wrote on social media that Iran’s 10‑point peace proposal (which reportedly includes conditions on ending hostilities, sanctions relief, guarantees on the Strait of Hormuz, and broader regional security issues) could form the basis for a more lasting agreement.
At the same time, analysts caution that Iran’s demands, which reportedly call for significant concessions from Washington, are maximalist and will be difficult to accept without major compromise.
Even as the ceasefire holds, negotiators are expected to continue talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, under international mediation aimed at translating this “workable basis” into a durable pact.
