Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh successes against criminal elements in Katsina State, rescuing an abducted woman, arresting suspects in a joint security operation and recovering 126 rustled livestock in a series of coordinated missions.
The developments were announced on Tuesday in a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.
According to the military, one of the operations was launched after security agencies received intelligence on terrorist activities around Karkata Village in Charanchi Local Government Area on July 26.
Troops, supported by operatives of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, swiftly moved to the area and confronted the fleeing gunmen.
Faced with superior firepower, the assailants reportedly abandoned the kidnapped woman and escaped into the surrounding forest.
The victim was rescued without injuries and safely reunited with her family.
In a separate operation targeting criminal hideouts in Wagin, Tundu Mobi and Chadawaki communities of Batsari Local Government Area, troops teamed up with officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to conduct coordinated raids.
The operation led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm loaded with five live cartridges, along with other exhibits.
Military authorities said the suspects and recovered items had been transferred to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.
The anti-terror operations also extended to Bakori Local Government Area, where troops acting on intelligence laid an ambush along a route believed to be used by livestock rustlers.
The suspects reportedly fled after sighting the troops, abandoning a large herd of stolen animals.
Security forces recovered 126 livestock, comprising 83 cattle and 43 sheep.
The animals were subsequently handed over to the Chairman of the Peace Keeping Committee in Bakori, alongside local government officials, to facilitate identification and return to their legitimate owners.
Reacting to the operations, the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their resilience and operational effectiveness.
He reaffirmed the military’s determination to sustain aggressive operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups operating across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
The commander assured residents that intelligence-led offensives would continue until criminal networks threatening lives and livelihoods in the region are dismantled.
