The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, citing Nigeria’s demographic structure and voting patterns.
Keyamo made the assertion during an interview on Frontline, a public affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM in Ilese-Ijebu.
He dismissed claims by opposition groups that they could build on their 2023 performance to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party remains dominant.
According to him, Nigeria’s demographic realities including regional, religious and generational voting behaviour, favour the APC, making it “extremely difficult—almost impossible” for the opposition to win.
The minister also downplayed the influence of supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as the Obidients, describing the movement as largely unorganised and more active on social media than at the grassroots.
He further questioned the sustainability of opposition alliances, particularly any potential partnership involving Atiku Abubakar and Obi, noting that religious and regional considerations could affect voter support.
On defections to the APC, Keyamo said political realignments were part of the democratic process and driven by strategic interests.
He also predicted that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would not survive beyond the 2027 election cycle, describing it as a temporary platform.
Keyamo maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the main opposition party.
He reaffirmed that the APC is united and focused ahead of future elections, adding that both new and old members share equal responsibility in ensuring the party’s success.
