President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after polling a total of 10,999,162 votes in the recently concluded APC presidential primaries. He received his certificate of return and the party’s symbolic flag from the APC chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, during a ceremony held at the International Conference Centre on Sunday.
In his acceptance speech, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the party members and reiterated his commitment to serve the nation with greater determination. “With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation,” he stated.
The announcement of the presidential primary results was made by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who confirmed that the election adhered to the guidelines set forth by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party’s constitution. Voting took place across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with 12,643,316 party members registered, 11,069,746 accredited, and 11,015,665 participating in the election.
In his address, President Tinubu thanked governors, National Assembly members, and party officials for their support, highlighting the achievements of his administration over the past three years. He noted significant structural reforms in the economy, the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, and improvements in power supply, among other accomplishments.
President Tinubu acknowledged the ongoing security challenges in parts of the country, assuring Nigerians of his commitment to safeguarding their lives and property. He called for unity and collaboration in nation-building, emphasising the importance of diversity and dialogue in a democratic society.
As the APC prepares for the upcoming elections, President Tinubu’s candidacy marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political landscape, with a renewed focus on economic reform and national development.
