President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate strengthening of security at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, following a recent bandit attack on the institution’s perimeter.
The President gave the directive on Friday while addressing participants of Senior Executive Course 48, 2026, at the institute. He was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Tinubu said the federal government would not tolerate further breaches of security at critical national institutions, stressing that NIPSS remains a strategic centre for training future national leaders.
He also ordered the management of the institute, in collaboration with security agencies, to urgently implement enhanced protective measures, including improved surveillance, access control, personnel deployment, and emergency response systems.
According to him, a comprehensive security action plan with a clear timeline must be submitted to the Office of the Vice President within 72 hours.
The President expressed condolences to the families of two soldiers and one police officer who lost their lives during the attack, assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
“Your safety is non-negotiable,” Tinubu said, adding that those behind the attack would not succeed in undermining national institutions or destabilising the country.
He commended participants of the executive course for their calmness and discipline during the incident, describing their conduct as a demonstration of readiness for national leadership responsibilities.
Tinubu also praised the Director-General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, and other officials for their swift coordination with security agencies during the attack.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, who was also present, approved the establishment of a buffer zone around the institute and the installation of security lighting to strengthen protection of the facility.
The NIPSS Director-General expressed appreciation for the federal government’s intervention, describing the visit as a demonstration of commitment to national security and institutional development.
