Tinubu Government Pledges Better Infrastructure and Welfare for Police Officers

By George Omagbemi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has reiterated its commitment to improving police infrastructure and personnel welfare as part of efforts to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force and enhance service delivery.

The commitment focuses on sustained investment in modern policing facilities, operational equipment, training, technology and improved working conditions for officers.

At the 2026 National Police Day celebration in Abuja, President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, said the Federal Government would deepen investment in police training, intelligence gathering, modern equipment and technology.

He also stressed the need for better welfare and working conditions, describing support for security personnel as essential to building a well-equipped and motivated police force.

The Federal Ministry of Police Affairs has also undertaken a review of police allowances and outstanding benefits, including pension arrears, death benefits and health-related entitlements.

The government says these measures are intended to improve officers’ morale, operational effectiveness and the quality of policing across the country.

However, the success of these commitments will ultimately depend on their implementation, including the provision of adequate accommodation, timely payment of entitlements, modern equipment and improved working conditions.

As Nigerians continue to demand greater security and accountability, improved police welfare remains an important part of efforts to strengthen public safety and confidence in law enforcement.
